ASABA -The Delta Government has entered into agreement with 26 estate developers to facilitate its housing delivery programme.
The Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Mr. Raymos Guanah, told newsmen in Asaba that Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan had also recently approved 769 applications for land allocation within and outside Asaba.
He said government was concerned about the accommodation problem in the state, especially in the Asaba metropolis, and was poised to address it.
Guanah said government’s decision to partner with the private developers was also due to its concern about the plight of civil servants, who were seeking accommodation.
“Government has entered into agreement with about 26 estate developers, including Oceanic Homes, Union Homes, UBA, Rock Properties and others to build housing estates within and outside the state capital.
“In the next couple of weeks, I am very confident that government will be laying the foundation stones for the estates within Asaba Capital Territory,’’ he added.
The commissioner said people were also being encouraged to apply for plots of land to build their own houses.
“Within Asaba Capital Territory alone, government has about 1,000 hectares for allocation. It starts from Issele-Asagba in Aniocha North and ends at Abor Ogwashi.
“We are laying out plots for the people to enable them to build their own houses,’’ he added.
Guanah urged interested applicants to apply through his ministry, adding that the cost of an approved plot was about N500, 000 maximum.
“Why then will anyone now decide to buy land for up to N5 million without title?” he asked.
He also appealed to people to refrain from building around Government House, Asaba, decrying “the urge for everybody to want to stay behind the government lodge”.
“We have land at Ugbolu, Abor Ogwashi, Ibusa, Oleh, Kwale, Ughelli, Oghara, Owa Alero, Ugbolokosi and other places in Delta. People should go to the areas instead of concentrating in Asaba,’’ he added.
