Ex-Commissioner Iyalekhue Shot Dead

Unidentified gunmen believed to be assassins on Thursday evening shot dead Bar. Anthony Iyalekhue, the immediate past Commissioner for Lands, Surveys and Housing during the administration of Prof. Oserhiemen Osunbor.


Barr Iyalekhue WEEKEND OBSERVER scooped was shot severally at close range in front of his private residence in G.R.A, Benin City by the gunmen who stormed the house about 5pm on Thursday and executed their deadly mission with brutal efficiency.


While confirming the killing of the former Commissioner, the spokesman of Edo State Police Command Headquarters Benin City ASP Peter Ogboi vowed that the police would leave no stone unturned to ensure that the killers are brought to book.


ASP Ogboi disclosed that investigation had begun with a view of arresting the killers and unraveling their motive.


Though no one has volunteered information that would serve as a possible clue in the investigation, WEEKEND OBSERVER learnt that on that fateful Thursday afternoon Barr Iyalekhue had told his driver to pull over around a popular fuel station along Sapele road when he reportedly noticed that a vehicle was trailing his.


Hours after, Barr Iyelekhue who may have perceived the impending danger, it was further gathered, sneaked into another vehicle which eventually took him home.


Barr. Iyalekhue who after settling down at home was said to have walked outside his compound at Etete in G.R.A to pay his brick-layers who worked for him that day when three armed men in Peugeot 505 appeared from the blues and opened fire at him leaving him in a pull of his own blood.


Barr. Anthony Iyalekhue it will be recalled was very active in the Prof. Oserhiemen Osunbor-led government as Commissioner for Housing Lands and Survey, later works and information and orientation following the sudden death of Barr. Calus Enoma.


However, whether Barr. Anthony Iyalekhue’s gruesome murder was sponsored or carried out by those who felt aggrieved by his conduct as Commissioner in the state or otherwise, time and police investigation will tell.
