Edo May Commence Sales Of Fertilizer To Farmers Next Week

 

 

There are indications that Edo State government may next week commence sales of fertilizer to farmers in the State at highly subsidized prices.


The chairman of the State Fertilizer Distribution Committee, Engineer Abubakar Momoh made the revelation yesterday when he led members of the Committee on stocktaking visit to fertilizer stores at the State Agricultural Development Programme Oko, Ministry of Staff and Training School in Benin City.


Other fertilizer stores visited included Ministry of Agriculture, Irrua station and the State Agricultural Development Programme Edo North Zonal Office, Auchi.


At Irrua and Auchi, the chairman Fertilizer Distribution Committee, who stood in for the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Tunde Lakoju, urge farmers in Edo State to cultivate the habit of using fertilizer in their farms, saying that fertilizer usage will enhance and boost their harvest.


He stated that on like in the past, genuine farmers in the Edo State irrespective of where they live will have the benefit of purchasing the three brands of fertilizers at government subsidized rates.


Government he disclosed has made a deliberate arrangement to ensure that the products are easily accessed in the three senatorial districts of Edo State.


He added that the exercise was a crucial one, and urge all and sundry to join hands together to ensure success of the sales.


Over 70 trucks of fertilizer are ready for evacuation to sales depot in all stores visited by members of the State Fertilizer Distribution Committee.


Categories of product in large quantity in stock include Urea, Compound and Golden Fertilizer.


At the various fertilizer stores visited the chairman of the State Fertilizer Distribution Committee, Engineer Abubakar Momoh warned the Store Keepers against reduction of the number of fertilizer ~on evacuation.


Engineer Momoh stated that Government Adams Oshiomhole was desirous to ensure that the fertilizer sufficiently gets to the common farmers.


He challenged local government fertilizer Committees to brace up in the task of capturing well located stores where Engineer Momoh dismissed claims that planting season is over as there exist opportunity for late cropping, pointing out that it is more beneficial for farmers to purchase and store fertilizers for use when needed.


He called on farmers to cash in on the state government’s gesture to boost their yields. The State Fertilizer Distribution Committee Chairman promised stiff collaboration with local government Fertilizer Committees to ensure effective distribution of the product.


The various storekeepers assured the Committee of adequate’ protection of the fertilizer upon evacuation.
