The Edo State Government has said that hence forth any motorist who violates the law of the road obstruction will be made to pay the stipulated fine ranging from N10, 000 to N80, 000 to the state government.
This was disclosed to the weekend observer in a chat at the government house by the Edo State Chairman of the taskforce of illegal structures, street trading and removal of road obstruction Col Felix Onaiwu Igiebor (rtd).
The chairman stated t hat he has earlier warned motorist in the state metropolis to desist from illegal parking, but they were adamant, adding that their non-compliance to its warning resulted that violator will be made to pay the fine as a deterrent.
He noted that the manner most motorist convey their vehicles in the state metropolis is un-imaginable adding that most of the motorist intensionally parked illegally to cause obstruction to other motorist.
Speaking on the offence resulting from road obstruction Col Egiebor disclosed that the illegal parking includes, parking illegally to obstruct other motorists, double parking on the road, making u-turn on any major roads as against the normal u-turn sign, queuing to make double line in any filling station, beating traffic light and not observing one way traffic street.
Continuing, commercial buses loading and off-loading of passengers on the center of the road, and un-authorised parking.
He noted that all major road vehicles are only allowed to park at the right hand side as vehicles are not allowed to park at both sides of the road.
He disclosed that violators will be made to pay the stipulated amount to the state government.
He also appeal to the motorist in the state metropolis to desist from illegal parking by complying with the road obstruction rule.
Meanwhile, the state taskforce has commence clearing of debris resulting from demolition of illegal structures from various areas that demolition were carried out.
In the same development, some structures that encroached on government right of way and pedestrians right of way has been earmarked for demolition.
The Nigerian observer gathered that the areas includes, Sapele Road, Akpakpava Road axis, Forestry Road, Plymouth Road, Ekenwan Road, Muritala Muhammed way Mission Road amongst others.
