FEDERAL government has concluded all arrangement to construct six computerised parks for trailers and petrol tankers across the nation .
Dropping this hint in Ibadan here while speaking at a stakeholders meeting on the establishment of the Ojoo Vehicle Park yesterday, the Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency [FERMA], Alhaji Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya said that the establishment of the computerised parks was part of the government’s efforts at easing the problem of illegal trailer parks across the nooks and crannies of the nation.
HE stated that as at present, Federal Government had identified over 178 flash points service as illegal parks throughout the country.
According to him, “ Going by the problem arising from the illegal parks on most of the Federal Highway, FERMA was left with no other option that to embark on the construction of the six pilot modern parks with one each in the six geographical areas of the country”.
He stressed that with the commencement of the construction of the pilot modern parks already designed , there would be no going back in the Federal Government’s efforts at ensuring timely completion of the parks which he said are to be provided with police post and other amenities needed to make it comfortable for its users.
Bataiya maintained that the agency’s governing board and management ‘’is leaving no stone unturned in its uncompromising stance to ensure the full actualization of Mr. President’s seven point agenda within the limited time frame’’.
‘’The board’s target is to provide the much needed infrastructural facilities across the nation, making FERMA at all levels accessible to all stakeholders, so as to close the communication gap between FERMA and public, ‘’he added.
Governor Adebayo Alao Akala in his speech said Oyo state government was ready to fully support the Federal government gesture in providing modern parks across the nation especially in Ibadan the Oyo state capital.
The governor who was speaking through the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources,Alhaji Mukaila Majekodunmi Aborode lauded the Federal government for considering easing the problem of illegal parks on the nation’s highways.
Chairman Akinyele Local government area of Oyo state, Mr Olusegun Olayiwola said the council was ready to give its support to the Federal Government in ensuring timely completion of the park.
Mr. Olayiwola then presented the necessary papers for the land meant for the construction of the computerised park to FERMA.
