Constitutional Amendment, A Continous Process -Bankole

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, has said that the recent gazetting of the first amendment of the 1999 constitution has not foreclosed further review or alteration of the document.


He said Wednesday in Abuja when the Ibarapa consultative Forum presented a memoradum on the creation of IBADAN STATE to the House of Representatives that constitutional amendment was a continuous process which the National Assembly will engage with states creation been the next legislative engagement of the National Assembly.


According to Bankole constitutional amendment was a continuous process aimed at equity and the development of the people irrespective of where they come from, adding that, the first stage which dealt with electoral aspect and other critical areas has bein successfully done with the next stage which is the creation of states.


He urged the people to work harder by voting for their current lawmakers who will indeed push their course during consideration for the states, noting that the Ibadan people needed to be included among the movement of Ibadan state which they were championing.


Bankole acknowledged the high competitiveness for the agitation for states creation across the country, adding that to develop the parliament as an institution it needed experienced persons that will do the right thing like pursuing the noble course of Ibadan state, he said.


Earlier in his presentation, chairman of Ibara consultative Forum, Asiwaju Moses Fagbohun, expressed concern and optimism for the creation of Ibadan state.


He disclosed that the people of Ibarapa and Ibadan had not only been together since time immemorial but had been cooperative and collaborating before the advent of the colonial rule.


According to the leader of the group, their quest to support the demand for the creation of Ibadan state followed that all past memorada demanding the state since 1992 to 2007 were jointly pursued and prepared by both ibarapa and Ibadan people


Asiwaju Fabouhun noted that the new state will comprise fourteen local government with a total population of 2,872,890million people which is 51.4% of the present oyo state.
