Xmas: Cleric Preaches Peace, Unity
CHRISTIANS in
Bauchi State have been urged to live in peace, harmony and unity with the followers of other religions.
Rev. Fr Bitrus Lange, the Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Yelwa, urged Christians to emulate the good works of Jesus Christ who, he noted, preached love, peace and unity.
Lange said that Christmas was in commemoration of God’s love for mankind which, he said, was epitomised by sending “His son, Jesus Christ, to die for sinners.
“Because of His love for human beings, God can do anything for us. That is why He sent Jesus Christ to come and save us.
“Christmas is not about eating good food or putting on new dresses but a period when we should reflect on our relationship with God and worship Him more.
Jesus Christ came to us in a humble manner, enduring all human hardship, so that men would be saved. We should, therefore, emulate Him, while giving our hearts, bodies and souls to Him,’’ Lange said.
Rev. Deshi Balafre of the Church of Christ In Nigeria (COCIN), Yelwa-Tudu, said that since Jesus brought peace, it was mandatory for all Christians to imbibe peace and reconcile with their neighbours whenever they had broken relationships.
‘We should remember, in the course of our jubilation, that we are no longer slaves to sin because Jesus Christ has broken the barriers.
“Instead of indulging in social vices, Christians should use the period for sober reflections and emulate Christ,” Balafre said.
In his message, Bishop Musa Tula, the Chairman of the Bauchi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), urged Christians to pray for peace and progress of the state and the country in general.
Newsmen reports that the Christmas celebration in Bauchi was very peaceful, as Christians trooped to their respective churches as early as 7 a.m. to start the celebration.
