Execute People-Oriented Projects, Cleric Urges Political Leaders

REV. Fr. Francis Bubai, has appealed to political leaders to identify with the plight of the people by embarking on projects that would alleviate their hardship.

Bubai made the appeal on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.
He said that political leaders were living exclusive lifestyles that precluded them from helping their people. He urged them to learn from the lessons of Christmas, which symbolised humility and selflessness.

“Let our leaders be humble people let their power reveal itself in their simplicity and the ability to accommodate others,” Bubai said. He expressed regret that the country’s resources were being squandered on useless things and called on the leaders to be more thoughtful and humane in their actions.

Bubai also called on the youth to shun alcoholism and other vices during Christmas. He said that the feast of Christmas was not about alcoholic consumption and overindulgence in social vices, but a moment for sober reflection.

Bubai said it was unfortunate that many people had misconstrued the message of Christmas to mean “overindulgence in social vices”.
