ASABA - The Delta Government says it has allocated land to more than 1,500 fresh applicants in the state.
Mr. Raymos Guanah, out-going Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, disclosed this on Wednesday in Asaba while handing over to the permanent secretary of the ministry.
Guanah said that there had been an upsurge in the number of applicants for government land for both residential and commercial purposes.
He said that recently a list containing 4,000 names of fresh land applicants was sent to the Delta governor for approval.
The out-going commissioner said that the ministry was consistently allocating land after approval had been received from the governor.
He also said that during his tenure the ministry was able to design and change the format of the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to ensure easy and quicker process of getting the document.
Guanah said that the new application form for land application was designed to capture all information about an applicant from the time of application to the time of getting the C of O.
He further said that the major challenge facing the ministry was development control, adding that the Land Information System (LIS) was very much on course in the state.
He said that aside the challenge of development control, other challenges were the encroachment on government land by land speculators.
He also said that the inability of land developers to provide approved building plans was another challenge.
Guanah, who formally resigned his appointment as commissioner in July, said that he resigned to pursue his political ambition of being elected to the Delta House of Assembly.
He charged the PS to ensure that the staff of the ministry changed their attitude to work, adding that most of the staff came late to work, were always absent and closure before official closing time.
