BAUCHI-The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 26 miscreants during a raid at the Dutsen Tanshi area of Bauchi City.
The Police Commissioner, Alhaji Danlami Yar’Adua, told newsmen in Bauchi that the miscreants were arrested late at night in possession of weeds, suspected to be Indian hemp and other drugs.
He said it had become necessary to mount special patrols, comprising men from various police formations in the city to tackle the menace of hard drugs
consumption among youths.
Yar’Adua said that the patrol was also aimed at fighting the dreaded political thugs popularly known as “Sara Suka”, who caused havoc during political gatherings and attacked innocent persons.
He added that a gang of armed robbers was also dislodged along the Bauchi-Jos Road at around 3 a.m. after the police got information that they had barricaded the road.
He explained that “the robbers were engaged by our men and our men dislodged them, resulting in some of them sustaining injuries before managing to escape into the bush’’.
The Police Commissioner said that the police would continue with the special patrol, in addition to routine patrols “until the security situation in the metropolis is improved.
