ADO-EKITI-The multi-million naira new Ekiti State House of Assembly complex under construction, will be ready before the end of November.
Mr. Ropo Ogunbolude, Special Adviser on Legislative Matters to the state Governor, Mr. Segun Oni, announced this in Ado-Ekiti during a visit to the old House of Assembly complex.
He said the governor was keen on ensuring a speedy completion of the project and had instructed the contractors to deliver it without failure.
When completed, the Special Adviser said the structure would rank among the few best in the country, going by the quality of modern facilities attached to it.
Ogunbolude commended the Governor for his determination to find a lasting solution to problem of befitting office accommodation for principal officers and members of the House.
According to him, the governor’s vision and his concern for the general wellbeing of officials in other arms of government, is responsible for his implementation of several development projects.
The Special Adviser specifically attributed the financial autonomy granted to the State House of Assembly to the transparency policy of Oni’s administration.
He said the governor gave priority to the welfare of the assembly men because of their tempo of work.
Ogunbolude said the passage of about 40 bills in a tenure by the Assembly was an achievement that had never been surpassed in Nigeria.
He, however, canvassed for more understanding and harmonious working relationship between the legislators and the executive in the interest of democracy.
The governor in his 2010 budget, provided additional N120 million for the completion of the project.
He also proposed N130 million for the purchase of office equipment, furniture and computers, while about N520 million was proposed as constituency allowance for the 26 members.
Besides, a provision of N160 million was made for the purchase of vehicles for the complex, N11 million for Information and Technology facilities, N18 million for printing machines and N25 million for the purchase of digital recording equipment.
