MALUMFASHI - Flooding has claimed the life of Malam Surajo Audu, one of PDP executive members in Yammama Ward, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina state.

Reports say that Audu drowned on Tuesday while crossing a river to his village, Gwanamarde, from Yammama.

A woman, Lubabatu Umar of Kurmin-Sarki village, also died on the same day when a house collapsed on her.

The Councillor representing the ward, Alhaji Mainasara Abubakar, who confirmed the deaths yesterday, added that dozens of houses collapsed.

Abubakar, who is the legislative leader, said the council chairman, Alhaji Abdulaziz Danyari, had visited the area to sympathise with the victims’ families.

A cross-section of residents of the area interviewed called on government to construct more drainages within the town.

They commended Governor Ibrahim Shema’s administration for diverting Ashada Lafia river that passed through Malumfashi town.
