EDSG Strategises For National Immunization Exercise

BENIN CITY- Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Cordelia Aiwuze on Thursday led a delegation of officials drawn from the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF on advocacy visit to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon.(Chief) Lucky James in his office.


Dr Aiwize who was accompanied on the visit, by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr Peter Ugbodaga said their visit was to solicit his support and evolve ways scaling up Immunization coverage in the 18 Local Government Areas of the state especially as the 1st round of the National exercise is billed for February 2012.


The Health Commissioner also harped on the need for chief Lucky James to appeal to the various local government council chairmen to be fully involved in the forth-coming Immunization exercise by sensitizing the grassroots people whom she noted constitute the vast majority, of to take their children under 5 years of age to the nearest health center in the locality and get them immunized against deadly diseases, during the exercise.


Dr Aiwize disclosed” further that an award will be presented to any state that clinches First position in the Immunization across the country and stressed the need for collaborative and concerted efforts by all stake holders to enable Edo state clinches first position.


According to her, comrade Adams Oshiomhole led administration’s is totally committed to polio eradication as well as childhood mortality rates across the country.


Dr Aiwize therefore advised all the local government chairmen to ensure functional refrigerators in all the primary health care facilities in their respective locality for the storage of potent vaccines that will be used for the exercise.


In his response, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Lucky James promised to make adequate arrangements and put necessary machinery in place to ensure that the state clinches the first position during the forth coming NPI by ensuring that the various local government councils key into this laudable vision.
