AUCHI- Former Acting Registrar of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Tom Okosun has been docked for allegedly stealing N1.6m belonging to federal government.
Okosun was docked sequel to charge number MAU /61c/2008 brought before his lordship, V.E Oyekpen of a Magistrates Court sitting in Auchi.
Okosun was accused of collecting the sum of 1.6 million naira as salary as a staff of federal Polytechnic, Auchi, after which he was due for retirement, an offence punishable under section 390 (5) and192.
In a two- count charge of stealing preferred against him by the police, Okosun pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In defence, Okosun told the Court that he earned the money because, he worked for it.
“I was not due for retirement as claimed”, he said.
Speaking further, he said he was born on August 24, 1953 and assumed duty in the polytechnic on September 1st 1978 and that the letter of appointment was consequently confirmed by the polytechnic on September 1, 1980.
“I have a photocopy of the appointment letter but the original copy was missing. I have put in 29 years and 10 months before I was arraigned before the court in 2008”, he said.
Continuing, he said before he took a fresh appointment in the polytechnic, he worked in a Teacher Training College and did not add the two years he spent at the Teacher Training College before joining Auchi Polytechnic.
“I did not transfer my service”, he added.
