BY ANDY EGBON

EDO State has so far recorded over 75 per cent success rate in the fight against polio.

Inspite of this, the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Clara Oshiomhole said lots still needed to be done to ensure 100 per cent success rate in the eradication of the disease.

Mrs. Oshiomhole, in her address delivered by the wife of the state Deputy Governor, Deaconess Endurance Odubu while flagging-off this year’s Sub-National Immunisation Plus Days observed that polio has continued to affect and deform children in the country.

According to her, the flagging-off ceremony serves as one of the proactive measures aimed at stemming the scourge.

Describing the Sub-National Immunisation Plus Days as another important health programme designed for children, Mrs. Oshiomhole advised mothers to make their children below five years old available for the immunisation against the childhood killer disease.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Momoh in his remarks said the immunisation plus days which begins today and ends Tuesday next week is one of the series scheduled for this year to enhance the well being of children.

He said the immunisation is meant to protect children against vaccine preventable diseases, namely: Measles, Tuberculosis, Diphtheria, Pertusis Poliomyelitis, Tetanus, Hepatitis B and Yellow-Fever.

The commissioner therefore called on all health workers to take the exercise seriously by ensuring that they are available at all designated outreaches and locations to carry out Mimmunisation exercise.
