Mr. Reti Uzzi publicity secretary of the Action Congress Agedo state is a renowned progressive politician and a journalist. In this encounter with our features Editor Henry Balogun, he reflects on Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s one year in office.
He spoke thus “Adams Aliu Oshiomhole has struck me as a determined person. He has vigorously pursued the economic enhancement of our people and the development of Nigeria pease. And the man has shown genuine interest on the issue that concern the common man. He has shown that kind of zeal, tenacity of effort in which he used as a labour leader to bring about development in governance. And that has been very exciting to watch. We are lucky to have such a man presiding at the helms of affairs in Edo state.
Speaking on the issue of the development of human resource by the Comrade governor, Mr. Uzzi opined “he has told us that by his actions and deeds that if you empower the youths, you empower their future, he has demonstrated by employing more than 5,000 youths. The index of measuring the success of government is employment of peole, which he has done very well we are happy about that. He has kept our people from the rearms of criminality to that of development. He has shown the old Chinese adage, teach a man how to fish and not just give him fish.
You have to teach him how to work to earn a living. He has gone into the realm of education, but for the gladden manouvering by the PDP, the money locked in the bank for the UBE, the infrastructures in the schools would have increased today. But we shall move forward by ensuring that education gets hearing. You see, educated people are the easiest to rule, they are the hardest to cheat. I always say that Nigeia can move forward if the column of truck pushers, artisans could produce graduates.
But if the labourer can produce a graduate, then Nigeria has moved forward, but in the situation where a labourer producese a labourer as a son then Nigeria has not move forward.
If we now talk about infrastructural development I believe we are yet to see the best of Oshiomhole, even with the massive transformation that is going on in Benin city and environ right now. He is like a good architect, all he does is to plan first, work out all the details before the real work can commence in earnest, but the best is yet to come.
On the Comrade governors zero tolerance for corruption the publicity secretary enthuses why I think I enjoin his zero tolerance for corruption is because I come from the background of the late Aminu Kano, he is my role model in politics, so I have always been left of Nigerian politics, from PD to ACP to were I am now. We have seen a man that reasons the way I reason. I tell you about him corruption has ruined the fabric of country. Money that could have been used for the development of our children, children, children, you, put the money in their private pocket, that is why I am thrilled about the jailing of Olabode George and they must use some other governors to show examples in this country. They can not continue to siphon our money into their private pocket . for instance nobody talks about corruption any more in Edo state because the man at the helms of affairs has zero tolerance for corruption. He has set a legacy that any one coming after him as a governor would follow his footprint. So that in itself has driven a wedge of fear into many people, even in the private sector.
On the Comrade governors intervention in the Federal government ASSU face off, Mr. Uzzi responds thus in the civilized world bi- partisan issue can be talked by stateman. And that is what president Yar’ Adua had shown. Yar’ Adua is a positive thinker, no matter how you look at it, though he is not in our party.
So he has seen the energy, the trust in Oshiomhole that he is a man that can perform despite that he is in the opposition party, that is how a statesman should perform in developed nation. But you have seen Oshiomhole’s cabinet, he has ANP in his cabinet, anybody that can make this state move forward, he will bring that person to work for his government, and that is how to move the state forward.
On AC message to Edo people at this auspicious time, Mr. Uzzi remark thus “Edo people should continually vote for AC because it is a party that means well for the people. The AC believes that the people should be taken to a higher platform. Our flag bearer, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole would continue to pursue his vision and philosophy of how to move the state forward. So the people should continue to vote for the AC because we mean well for them. The future of their children is assured by remaining with the AC.
The other side of the political division gave us 10 years of squandermania. But we assure them that this party would lead them to El-Dorado, and so Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is determined to take Edo to the next level.
