The importance of forest lies in its ability to hold rain water, which is gradually released to the soil below and streams which flow through them. The Psalmist wrote in the Book of Psalms in the Revised Standard Version (RSV) of the Bible: Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me” (Psalms 51:5).
