WARRI – The Chairman of Gbaramatu Community Development Committee, Mrs. Fanty Goodness Wariyai has called on the federal government to live up to its promises by sincerely implanting its post-amnesty programmes in the Niger-Delta.
Mrs. Wariyai who made this call in a chat with THE NIGERIAN OBSERVER in Warri, urged the federal government to meet up with the demands of the former militants that have embraced the amnesty package, stressing that it is only then the much needed development in the area will come.
In her words, “I want to appeal to the federal government to live up to its promises. It should ensure that what the militants were agitating for are meant. It is only then that the much needed development we have been talking about can be achieved”.
The chairman who also appealed to government at all levels to provide employment opportunities for the youths in the region, pointed out that the issue of violence in the region would completely become history if the people are occupied, stressing that, “an idle mind is likely to get involved in violence”.
“If the people are occupied, they will have means of livelihood and they will not be violent. It is because they are not usefully engaged that gave room for those crisis”, Wariyai added.
She hinted that the activities in the region have since returned to normalcy following the disarmament of the militants, adding that everyone in the region has embraced peace in anticipation of the post-amnesty programmes.
While appealing to parents in the region to always caution their children not to indulge in violence and other criminal activities, Wariyai stressed that no development can take place in a violent situation.
