NAPHER. SD Wants Health Educationists In Schools

 

LAGOS- Primary and secondary schools in Nigeria have been urged to employ physical health educationists to teach the right sports skills and inculcate benefits of healty living in the youth.


The Nigerian Association for Physical Health Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (NAPHER.SD), in a communique issued at the end of its national conference in Minna, stressed the importance of fitness among youths.


“The presence of health education specialists in schools will help inculcate the right skills towards fitness, sports and health in the youth,” the NAPHER.SD said.


The communique made available to the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) today in Lagos , called on the National Sports Commission (NSC) to embrace grassroots sports development for accelerated sports development in the country.


The communique signed by its President, Prof. Emmanuel Ojeme, and Secretary-general Dr Geoffrey Ogwu, stressed the need “to institute broad-based and effective fitness and sports programmes in schools and communities”.


It urged the government at all levels and the private sector to commit more resources for the provision of sporting, fitness and recreational facilities.


The communique recommended that sports agencies, organisations and institutions be headed by competent sports professionals, which they said was in line with the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Sports..
