LAGOS- Mr. Christian Onwuka, father of late Ifeanyi Onwuka, has appealed to the Police to bring to justice the boy’s killer.
Ifeanyi, 32, a graduate of Political Science, University of Ilorin, was allegedly murdered in Bariga, Lagos, by his friend following a quarrel.
The applicant was said to have left their residence at 23, Oshineye street, Pedro, Palmgrove in Shomolu on September 2, after he received a telephone call from one of his friends.
He was said to have gone to Bariga to see the caller but on getting there, a quarrel ensued between him and another friend who stabbed him to death.
Narrating the incident to newsmen in Lagos, Ifeayi’s father said he put his trust in the Police to bring the killer to justice.
“My only consolation will be for justice to be done by the Police,” he said.
Onwuka said that his son was to have taken up his first employment in a company this month before his death.
“He left home on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, in the morning to see an unidentified friend, who called him on his mobile telephone.
“We waited till about 11 p.m. but did not see him. It was then that we called his handset severally, but there was no reply.
After that, his brother in Aba called to ask me what was happening at home in Lagos and I told him nothing.
“He called again and asked the same question. Then I became worried but still told him that nothing happened.
“He, then, told me that Ifeanyi was dead. I could not believe it until his friends came to my house and confirmed his death,” Onwuka said.
According to him, Ifeanyi’s friends told him that Ifeanyi had fought with an unknown person and was stabbed and that the case was at the Ilaje Police Station in Bariga.
Onwuka said that when he got to the police station, he was shown a statement written by one Emeka, the brother-in-law to the lady who allegedly stabbed his son.
He, however, admitted that he was aware of the relationship between his late son and the suspect, stressing that her parents used to live in Palmgrove area.
Ifeanyi’s corpse, according to his father, has been deposited at a private morgue in Agege. DSP Frank Mba, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident, said that one Patience Paul had been arrested in connection with Ifeanyi’s death.
