BENIN CITY – Edo State Head of Service, Dr. S.O. Imuekemhe, has reiterated government’s commitment towards giving adequate attention to workers welfare in the state.
Dr. Imuekemhe gave the assurance in an address delivered during a three-day seminar on planning, budgeting, project monitoring/control, organised for the senior management officers of the public service which took place recently at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre, in Benin City.
He said that the success of any office depended on the effectiveness of planning, budgeting and project monitoring/control which he said were in line with professor Osunbor’s focus on the restoration of the observance of work ethics in the public service of Edo State.
He said that the organisation of the seminar was necessary because of the need to equip the senior officer with the rudiments and techniques of planning, budgeting and project monitoring/control.
The H.O.S stressed the need to establish a proactive service in the state that would be innovative and result oriented instead of a service that would be bedeviled by gross ineptitude.
While noting that efforts were made to actualise the aforemention objective, he said that the government had put together several group of serving officers in the various ministry and parastatals in order to be equipped with the various principles and methods involved in planning, budgeting as well as project monitoring/control.
He commended the governor of the state, Professor Osunbor, for his workers-friendly disposition, adding that salaries were now being paid as and when due.
While commending the governor, Professor Osunbor, for the magnitude of indebtedness to workers retired in 2002 which has significantly reduced by the present administration, the HOS sued for continuous understanding of the relationship existing between workers and government.
The Managing Consultant of LizzyJohnson Management Consultants (LMC), Mrs. Pat Egbun-Oluwa Ojisua, had charged all officers of Edo State Public Service to ensure quality delivery of services if they must fulfill their various tasks.
She said that the workshop was organised to sensitise the public civil servants on techniques for handling their jobs, adding that the workshop was also to enhance the officers knowledge in their area of operation, urging them to perform impeccably by using appropriate knowledge and skills.
While declaring the ministry’s support to contribute quality and excellence service to the State and the Nation, Mrs. Pat Ojisua enjoined all stakeholders towards taking Edo State to enviable height.
She, however expressed gratitude to Edo State Government for the opportunity given to LMC to contribute its quota to the development of their human capital.
She enlisted some topics that could expose the workers to the modern techniques to include; dynamic and creativity in Nigeria public service, project networking, budget as a tool for financial control, financial auditing and financial statements in public service, amongst others.
