EDO STATE-Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole says only the entrenchment of genuine democracy can lead to sustainable development.
The Governor declared this yesterday when the Vice Chairman of Owan West Council, Mr. Anthony Alegbe led six councillors to defect from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the Action Congress.
According to Oshiomhole, “only the people, whether they are unemployed, literate or illiterate, rich or poor, regardless of their social class, on the day of election, they are equal in terms of power’’.
He argued that all those who seek to wield power, must go to the level of the people because only they can confer power on you.
Oshiomhole observed that there is nothing personal about the fight against godfatherism and the enthronement of the principle of one man one vote, stressing that it is about those not in power.
“Now I am the Governor of Edo State. I know it will not be in my interest to remind the people that they are my boss. But I know that the truth is, power belongs to the people and only they under the guidance of God can truly and democratically assign it to any one that they choose to. I believe that this is a precondition for good governance and sustainable development”.
Comrade Oshiomhole noted that there is a strong relationship between the movement of one man one vote and ensuring that the leaders work for the people of the state.
The Governor assured of his commitment to ensuring that every person in the state feels the difference and feels connected and therefore have the basis to continue to identify with this government.
