Edo Govt Pledges To Assist Women, Children


BENIN CITY - Edo State Government has restated its commitment towards improving the welfare of women and children.


Hajia Maimuna Momodu the state commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development who gave this assurance in Benin City said various steps had been taken to enhance their welfare.


She was addressing press on the preparations for this year celebration of international women’s day with the theme ‘Equal Right, equal opportunity progress for all” which kicks off today Friday with Friday with Jumat serviced in all the mosques in Edo State.


The commissioner revealed that the Child Right bill passed into law by the state government had been closely monitored to ensure that children, especially under-aged are not exploited ad abuse.


She said the incidence of abandoned babies has be reduced to its barest minimum due to sensitization mounted by Edo State Government organs and advised parents to go back to value culture system.


On women development , the commissioner stressed the need for women to be given equal opportunities as the men, both in elective and family positions, as they can excel and contribute meaning fully to the growth of the society, adding that skill acquisition centres sited at different locations were geared towards empowering the women.
