Extra-Judicial Killings: Osun PDP Backs FG’s Move

OSOGBO - Against the backdrop of the recent mayhem in Jos, the PDP in Osun has expressed support for the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle extra-judicial killings.

Alhaji Ademola Razaq, the chairman of the party, said in Osogbo that the measure was necessary to prevent some people from taking the laws into their hands and endangering democracy.

The statement, signed by Mr Adeolu Adeyemo, the party’s Director of Publicity, quoted Razaq as calling on the Federal Government to ensure that perpetrators of the Jos mayhem were punished.

Razaq commended the government for initiating the on-going exercise in which inputs were expected from interest groups for the operation of the law.

“Religious leaders in Plateau and Nigeria are expected to act in line with the tenets of their religion and avoid unguarded utterances that can further compound the development,’’ it said.
Meanwhile, the AC in Osun has called on the Election Petition Re-trial Panel in Osogbo not to unduly prolong its sittings.

The party, in a statement on Tuesday, said the call became necessary ahead of the 2011 election which might make the panel irrelevant.

The statement signed by Mr Sunday Akere, the party’s Director of Publicity and Strategy, alleged that the PDP in the state wanted the sitting to drag on till 2011.

‘‘We no longer have any doubts in our mind of the deliberate efforts of the PDP to prolong the sitting since the tribunal began sitting,’’ it said.
