BENIN CITY - The Edo Leadership Assembly (ELA) has urged the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Osayuki G. Oshodin to ensure he surpasses all expectations.
The ELA gave the advice yesterday in a signed statement by Dr. Oboma Asemota tagged: “an Open Letter To The Vice- Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Osayuki G. Oshodin.”
In the statement in which he was also congratulated over his historic appointment through a vigorous and transparent process the group said it would offer unreserved assistance to help marshall resources from the Diaspora to UNIBEN.
“The expectations for you are high and all eyes are watching. We have no doubt that you are capable of rising to the occasion and will meet and surpass all expectations,’ the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Committee of Benin Elders have planned a reception luncheon to be held tomorrow (Saturday), March 13, 2010 to honour Professor Osayuki Godwin Oshodin as the First Benin to be appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin. Benin City, 40 years after its establishment.
In a statement made available to The NIGERIAN OBSERVER and signed by Professor A. A. E. Orhue, Chairman L.O.C. and Dr. V. E. Omozuwa, Secretary L.O.C., the committee was specifically charged by His Royal Majesty, Uku Akpolokpolor, Oba Erediauwa, Oba of Benin Kingdom to ensure that a Benin man emerged as the Vice-Chancellor, University of Benin “Although, there has always been qualified Professors of Benin extraction contesting for this position in the past , none had succeeded to secure the post of Vice-Chancellor since the 40 years of the existence of the university, even when the names of Benin Professors made the top 3 as in the last 10 years’, the statement added.
