BENIN CITY – Seven different associations with their members on Wednesday paid a solidarity visit on the Majority Leader, Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Philip Shaibu.
The groups are Philip Shaibu solidarity movement, Etsako Students Union from University of Benin, Sabo Quarters Women Association in Jattu, Edo State Commercial Motor-Cycle Riders Union Uzairue Branch, Afemai Action Youth Vanguard, Students Union Government (SUG) from Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma and National Association of part-time students, AAU.
They congratulated Hon. Shaibu on his emergence as the Majority Leader of the State of House of Assembly, sympathised with him on the injuries inflated on him during the skirmish in the House and gave assurance of their support and prayers to him, other Principal Officers and law makers.
Responding, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bright Omokhodion told them that their representative, Hon. Shaibu was representing them well and always championing their cause in the House of Assembly.
He reiterated that the February 22, 2010 fracas was to free the people from bondage and that in the next couple of months, they would be enjoying wide-spread infrastructural development across the state.
While thanking them for their visit he also expressed gratitude for the support and prayers which he urged them sustain.
Also, the Majority Leader, Hon. Philip Shaibu assured them that the lawmakers would continuously applied constitutional means to achieve their goals adding that they are law-abiding.
According to him, the House of Assembly now had a Speaker that had a large heart to accommodate everybody, stressing that the House would always legislate for the development of the state.
While thanked them for their visit, high-point was the presentation of congratulatory cards to him.
