LAGOS - Employers of labour in the country have been advised to look beyond money compensation if they hope to get the best out of their workers. Other issues they should consider include career planning, training and development, performance management and staff well-being.

A member of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Managing Director of SENCE, Mrs. Ogo Ibok, gave the advice at a Breakfast Meeting of the Chamber’s Professional Practice Group (PPG) in Lagos.

Mrs. Ibok, who spoke on the topic “Human Resource Management in Professional Firms”, said that finding the right persons is difficult in an environment like ours with prevailing falling educational standards and severe skills shortage.

“This calls for innovation and general re-think of what is needed in a staff,” she submitted.

Meanwhile, the next Breakfast Meeting of the Group took place yesterday 11th March, 2010 at the offices of SIAO Partners, a firm of Chartered Accountants.
The Chairperson of PPG, Mrs. Toki Mabogunje of Toki Mabogunje & Coy (TMC) had urged all members to attend the event during which the theme “Mergers and Acquisitions: A Sharing of the SIAO Experience” was addressed.
