BENIN CITY - Towards encouraging positive actions and discouraging some prone to corruption among staff in the Ikpoba-Hill Business District of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), a sub unit of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) has been inaugurated in the district.
Head of Administration Services, Benin Distribution Zone of PHCN, Mr. Funsho Dada while inaugurating the six-man committee member on Wednesday charged them to discharge their duties without fear or favour.
He hoped that with the inauguration, certain actions and inactions prone to corruption among staff would be handled, while reports would be sent to the zonal ACTU.
He said the public should also be encouraged to channel all their complaints and reports on corruption to the sub-unit for onward transmission to the zonal unit.
Dada who is the Head, ACT, Benin Distribution Zone of PHCN, further said the sub-unit must ensure that petitioners’ letters and reports were treated with utmost confidentially. He noted that the ACTU box where all petitions are dropped must be kept in an open place for easy accessibility by customers.
To the newly inaugurated sub-unit members, he urged them to have a programme that would define their yearly/monthly activities; have monthly meetings and render monthly returns to the Zonal ACTU; liase with the district management to get them involved with the sub unit’s activities; always get in touch with the zonal ACT on all issues bordering on corrupt practices; create awareness on the need for full supervisions in PHNCN operations and encourage reward system for staff that will boldly shun corrupt practices.
Responding on behalf of other members, Ohi-Obadan R, Chairman of the committee pledged that they would not disappoint in the job assigned them and promised to uphold the confidence reposed in them.
Members include W. Aluko, .E. Olufemi, Public Affairs Manager of the District., J. Salifu, F. Abebe and S. Jafaru, secretary of the committee.
