LAGOS -The Lagos State Commissioner of police Marvel Akpoyibo has affirmed that the rate of bank robbery and killing of police in the state has dropped.
Akpoyibo made the remark in his speech during a special service titled “The Role of the church and security agencies in curbing crime” at the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) in Lagos recently.
He said “ The rate of crime in the state has dropped and police casualities in crime combat have significantly dropped since he took over, the same applies to the number of cars snatched on daily basis”
The Lagos police boss attributed this decline in crime rate to the divine intervention of God. He added, “Before my appointment, I committed the job, the state and the police force into the hand of God in prayer”
He therefore solicited for the support of citizens for prayers for the security of Lagos State and the nation in general. Akpoyibo reiterated that crime rate can reduce drastically if Christians pray for the nation.
As regards his belief in God, the state police boss said that he prayed to God for help in reducing crime when he was made the commissioner of police in Lagos State .
Said he “ God has been faithful to me since assuming office as police commissioner” The commissioner urged the congregation to acquaint themselves with God who, he said, can supply their needs.
He sermoned that the world is nothing while urging youth and those who engage in crime to have a change of mind and embrace God as the saviour. On the alleged claim that he was a cultist, Akpoyibo said he was never a cultist and his saviour is Jesus Christ.
He said the publication claiming his alleged involvement in charm is false. Akpoyinbo said God is the saviour.
In a similar vein, the presiding Bishop of TREM, Dr. Mike Okonkwo said “Church has a vital role to play in curbing crime through persistent preaching and exhortation against lawlessness in the society”.
