Don’t Compromise Standards: Lulu Warns Refs

ABUJA - NFF Chairman Sani Lulu has in Abuja warned referees against compromising officiating standards in this year’s Globacom Premier League.

Addressing participants at the opening of the pre-league refresher course for referees, organised by the Nigeria Premier League, Lulu described the offering and acceptance of bribes as an illegality.
“The act of giving and accepting bribe means aiding and abetting illegality which in turn acts against fairness during matches,” he observed.

He challenged referees to make this year’s league season a memorable one by shunning such influences that would mar the competition.

“This will free your minds from bias and assist to improve the quality of officiating as well as the standard of the league,” he said.

“It will also justify the confidence reposed in you by all to improve our league,” the chairman said.
Lulu reminded them that sanctions awaited erring referees and warned that their performances during the league season would be closely monitored.

He urged the 191 participants to update their knowledge during the pre-league course for the task ahead.

Engineer Emmanuel Imiere, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, assured that they would carry out their assignments professionally in handling the 156 matches of the season.

“We are dedicated to ensuring improved performance in this year’s league season scheduled to start tomorrow,”Imiere said.
