LAGOS - Plans are underway to upgrade facilities in vocational and technical schools in Lagos , a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Wahab-Alawiye King, has said.
He expressed concern over the poor condition of some of the schools, and dismissed insinuations that they had been forgotten and abandoned by the government.
“Government has not forgotten them. Rather, it plans to carry out a wholesale upgrading of the facilities in the schools,’’ he told newsmen in Lagos.
According to him, the upgrading will include erection of more structures and supply of teaching and learning aids.
Alawiye-King, the House Committee Chairman on Education, said the House was currently working on a bill that would take care of vocational and technical education in the state.
He said that the gesture was aimed at strengthening the schools and improving the quality of education in the state.
“The administration is committed to providing sound education to every child in the state, irrespective of his social status.
“This will go a long way in changing the lives of the children and allow them to contribute their quota to the development of the country,’’ he added.
Alawiye-King said for any nation to record any meaningful development, it must provide enough facilities in all sectors, especially education to enhance growth.
