LG Restates Commitment To Residents’ Health Needs


BENIN CITY – Chairman, Oredo Local Government Council, Hon. Mike Nosa-Ehima, has emphasized his administration’s priority attention to the health needs of people in the locality.


The Council boss explained, while receiving executive members of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Edo State Branch, who were on a courtesy visit to the council, that his administration believed that a sound mind and body would better appreciate and utilize other projects being executed by government.


Hon. Nosa-Ehima noted that because of the high premium his council placed on the health needs of the people, it had within nine months in office, partnered with PRO-Health International and Danjuma Foundation to organize free drug and medical treatment on two occasions at the Stella Obasanjo Women and Children Hospital.


The Council boss further noted that apart from regularly organising immunisation exercises as at when due, Oredo local government had partnered with the Millennium Development Goals Project and other health promoting organisations to bring primary health care services closer to the people, especially in the grassroots.


Hon. Nosa-Ehima disclosed that four health centers built by his administration at Ekae, Evbuodia, Emwinyomwan and Ugogogin communities in Oredo Ward 2, had been supplied hospital equipment through council’s partnership with the Millennium Development Goals, CGS 2007 project.


He commended the activities of the Nigeria Medical Association, especially in the area of regulating its professional practice, and assured that Oredo local government council would like to partner with the Association in its positive endeavour to improve on the health status of people in the locality.


Earlier in his address, Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Edo State Branch, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, told the Council boss that he led his executive to intimate him on the readiness of the association to partner with the council in advancing positive health practice environment in the locality.


Dr. Enabulele noted that the NMA was concerned about the present uncoordinated nature and indiscriminate establishment of private medical health centers in the state, adding that his leadership was set to bring sanity and enforce strict professionalism to health practice.
