Saraki Dissolves Units Of Nigerian Legion

ILORIN - Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara has approved the dissolution of the Area and the Council units of the Nigerian Legion in the state.

Alhaji Saka Onimago, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in a statement issued in Ilorin , explained that the dissolution took retrospective effect from August 25.

He explained that the dissolution was in accordance with the provision of Section 6 (1) of the schedule of the Nigerian Legion Act 37 of 1988.

Onimago said that though the Ministry of Defence had directed that election be held into the designated offices between Oct. 2 and 5 of this year, the Eid-el-fitri and the National Day celebration, made it necessary to postpone the elections.

He, however, directed that elections into the Area and state councils should be held between Oct. 2 and 15 respectively.

Onimago said that officials from the Governor’s Office would go round all the 16 local government areas to conduct the elections on dates scheduled for each of them beginning from Monday, Oct. 13.

The SSG therefore advised all the local government chairmen to contact the office of the governor for details and to give necessary assistance to the state officials to facilitate and guarantee successful elections into the offices of the Legion in the councils.
