AFUZE- The Governor of Edo State Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor has called on well meaning individuals of the state to emulate the philanthropic gesture of Hon. Fred Omoigberai in sports development at the grassroot level for the upliftment of the youths.
The governor made this call in this address during closing ceremony of the 12th edition of Ovbiomu Foundation Gold Cup soccer competition in Afuze, Owan East Council headquarters over the weekend.
The governor also pleaded with the people of Owan East and West that the completion of Afuze Mini-Stadium will in no distant time be a dream come true .
In his words , “Let me first and foremost commend the sponsor of this competition Hon. Fred Omoigberai for his philanthropic gesture helping to develop our youth through sports because it is not easy.
“And so, I’m calling on other well meaning individuals of the state to emulate him, for this is one of the ways by which we can save the youths from the various social vices that are inimical to their lives”, he emphasized.
Governor Osunbor acknowledged the efforts of Hon. Omoigberai in ensuring he was present at the occasion to feel the pulse of the Owan people and also have a first hand knowledge of the decaying sport, sporting facilities in Mike Imoudu college of physical Education and the abandoned Olympic Games Village all in Afuze.
Governor Osunbor reassured the people that all other issues relating to traditional disputes will be accordingly handled in due course.
Speaking with the press Hon. Omoigberai said that he was overwhelmed with the concern the governor has shown to ensure speedy development in Owan land, while thanking him for finding time out of his tight schedules to attend the occasion.
In the final match of the day, Evbiamen FC defeated Startets of Sabongida-Ora by 2-1 to be come the new champions of the competition.
Dignitaries at the occasion include commissioners, special advisers, honourable members of the Edo State House of Assembly, PDP chieftains, traditional rulers among others.
