WE are living in a world of uncertainties where active philosophies of today will become obsolete concepts of tomorrow. Likewise, there are many viable philosophies and concepts of yester-years that are no longer workable today.
The concept of inflation is drawing back many third world nations and leading them to abject poverty today, especially, Africa and the African nations.
Economic analysts say it is wrong to have too much money in the hands of people in the third world nations but it is a moderate European method that everyone have money to take care of themselves. The same applies to the Western American nations and the now Asian growing economies.
The Nigerian government should pay her workers the equivalent of 800 dollars monthly which is a measure for 8 hours work of 40 hours weekly, to 160 hours monthly.
We are looking for answers to the various systemic problems in which Nigeria had been engulfed with. We are coming together, we are moving forward, and we will continue to experiment on the most appropriate means and methods to give the Nigerian population a moderate – living-standard. We are ready by commitment and by oath of allegiance to our pledge to help the government. But the holders of public offices at any particular time from now must prove themselves of the merit of the office(s) bestowed upon them.
“Thy talent may have brought thee to a particular office and this is given thee as a stewardship in the kingdom of God”; meaning the society in which we all live. All these talents are given them so that it could be used judiciously to improve the lives of the less-privileged. This is the natural mission of man. Those who are chosen must serve the less privileged.
Even if we are taking dollars as a favourable measurement scale because of its dominance in world trade, it doesn’t matter to us. A worker is a worker whether in Nigeria or in Germany or London or New York or Beijing or Tokyo or Sydney. Take a measurement scale on currency: print more money to the equivalent of taken scale, compete on this basis.
We have found that the Japanese Yen and the Chinese bulky are still measuring favourably with the British pounds or the American dollars and the European Euros, because they are given out in bulks; their economies are still moving competitively with the much more advanced economies, and by purchasing power and purchasing efficiency, science and technologies have been bought, tested and improved upon by these nations.
What actually are we waiting for? Nigeria stands a better chance among all nations that the United Nations had listed as having poor economies.
Despite what we may have gone through from the year of Independence till today, the main issues that would be of national interest, include:
* Reactivating the Nigerian Refineries to enhance long-term production process in the oil industry.
*Supporting the Educational Institutions because this is the source of manpower for keeping the nation going on for time indefinite.
*Embarking on constructive reform programmes in the areas of roads, electricity, water, housing, agriculture, handicrafts and technocrats as a means to provide jobs for the people and to arrest social unrest
* Repositioning of commercial structures and recreational locations will help us to move forward towards a well organized and planned society.
* We do not need to politicise the oil business in Nigeria. The agitators should stop civil disturbances.
It amounts to the spirit of acceptance of what is right for any group of persons to advance.
Nigeria cannot remain as an underdeveloped nation for any period longer than this. We must accept a code for a change for the best. What have we to show to fellow African nations that will justify our nation as the Richest African Nation? Why must we not test some civic concepts like united work-front devoid of any sectorial importance?
Why should we continue to struggle for regional supremacy, thereby wasting time? What is the future visionary claim for NIGERIA?
The world around us is moving progressively and we are of the view that this is the time to put all odds aside and ‘work together to build a stronger. Democratic Society for this country. Any group of persons; any cult, any gang or any movement that will
further bring retrogression; or further lead Nigeria to poorly rated lifestyle should not be tolerated. We must all condemn destructive tendencies and stop killing one another for no tangible reason(s).
To aspire to be known is a human attribute. To aspire to be decent is also a human attribute.
Indecency must be checked among the citizens of Nigerians. We should rather be working out things based on the measure of cooperation as a first approach.
We might start a programme and find that it is not working out well, then we can think of another method; life afterall has began and continues with a trial and error methods. If we do not allow chance for trial or for a start, how can we find out the errors or correctness and if we don’t do this experiments, how can we improve?
When we started agitating as far back as 1986-1987 as active civil servants against the military, many thought that there was no way the military government could hand over to a civilian government in Nigeria.
Even at very high powered meetings, many thought that Nigeria will never have a democratic state. But today, what are we seeing? The civilian government has come to
stay, but are the civilians, themselves prepared to nourish and maintain it.
We can consider this period as that of RECONCILIATION. Yes, we have to reconcile our differences of over 48 years so that we can prepare good blue prints for our children and blue grand and great grand children.
It is time to make a declarative statement about NIGERIAN people. The Federal Government’s to create a Ministry for the Niger/ Delta as a Disaster area is a welcome consideration. The entire nation is a disadvantaged entity. Based on this awareness, we should all work together to make life comfortable for the Nigerian people. This is a country with very healthy people when well-fed. We wish to appeal to the president and his team of officers, that this deal between the Nigerian government and the foreign oil companies, operating on Nigerian soil and regions should be reviewed as a matter of urgency. This is where the problems come from, and to totally stop the state of instability that we have been facing in this country, it is important to make a clearly and accurate and transparent foreign trade rules.
Let us recognize the need of the people. Let us recognize our needs as Nigerians. Now that we know our problem, it means we can find the answer. What actually do we have to do to stop the continuous violence of the Niger-Delta dwellers and other Nigerian Dwellers? As long as they are our brothers as well as our sons and daughters, we must settle this matter: all of us must be involved. We must come together for peace talks and we must reach a compromise. For example, stop destroying pipelines and kidnappings and killings: The area will be re-developed by reconstructions, by providing jobs, By providing schools, building decent settlements, improving the standard of the living of the people in that area and other areas of the nation and by accounting correctly for the gains of the oil business, ready to change the old pattern to a new one: Therefore, give a period from now to 36 months ahead and see what could be done.
