Council Disburses Scholarship To Students

KATSINA -The Kafur Local Government Council in Katsina has disbursed N7.4 million as scholarship to 770 students studying in various institutions of higher learning in the country.

Alhaji Bature Umar, the Chairman of the Council, who disclosed this to newsmen in Katsina, said the scholarship was aimed at assisting students under its education support scheme.

He said the beneficiaries were properly screened to ascertain the courses they were pursuing before they were awarded the scholarship.

Umar said that under the scheme, science students received N25,000 each while those doing art were given N10,000 each.

He urged the beneficiaries to be serious with their studies to justify the council’s investment in their education.

Umar called on parents to support the council in its effort to develop the area.

He also called on wealthy individuals in the area to contribute their quota towards the development of education.

Umar disclosed that the council was constructing two additional junior secondary schools at Gamzago and Sabuwar-Kasa villages at a total cost of N130 million.

He said the move was part of measures to accommodate more students.
