NULGE Week Begins Oct. 13

BENIN CITY – The President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Edo State branch, Comrade Anthony Kaduna Eboigbodin, during the week re-echoed the scrapping of the state and local government joint account .


Comrade Eboigbodin who was speaking on the forth - coming NULGE Week that is billed to commence Monday, October 13, 2008 said that the state governments across the country had bastardized the good intentions of those who drafted the 1999 Constitution.


He, however, said that if any state government was able to follow the intentions of the Constitution by paying some certain percentage to the account, then, the system should remain .


The NULGE President whose eight-year tenure would elapse in April 2009,said the NULGE week which is second in the series would afford them the opportunity to appreciate their achievements and also peep into the future .


While calling on the local branch executives across the 18 local government to always try to emulate the state executive in carrying out some project that will benefit their immediate environment, Comrade Eboigbodin who also doubles as Edo State NLC chairman said th at his NULGE - led executive had been able to put in place some roads maintenances and provision of pipe-borne water to the people in their immediate environment they operate.


The NULGE week which he said would start on October 13,2008 with a visit to their only patron, the Oba of Benin and visit to Orphanages while Tuesday there will be a courtesy visit on the government of Edo state and commissioning of the NULGE water project by Edo State Governor Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, added that on Wednesday, there will be lectures on some topical issues affecting the grassroots governance and the nation at large.


While soliciting the support of his members and 18 local government chairmen, the NULGE president said levies were placed on members which they used to put-up a befitting secretariat that equally have eight executive rooms that will cater for members on transits.
