BENIN CITY - The State Commissioner, Ministry of Higher Education, Chief Sylvester Ewanehi has called on stakeholders in the education industry to collaborate with government at revamping the sector.
The Higher Education Commissioner made the call recently in Benin City while presenting award tagged “Chief Gabriel Ewansihia Aihie annual scholarship to indigent students from selected schools across the State.
Commissioner Ewanehi represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Matthew M. Ogendegbe, recalled the remarkable efforts by the present administration in the State led by Professor Oserhiemen Osunbor at ensuring affordable and qualitative education for the citizenry.
He lauded the initiative of the Aihie family, stressing that the gesture will assist in the enhancement of excellence among students.
Earlier, a representative of the Aihie family, Evangelist (Mrs) Christiana Aihie said the scholarship scheme was in memorial of her late husband Chief Gabriel Ewansihia Aihie who she described as a philanthropist and an ardent lover of education.
She explained that the award was designed at encouraging hard-work and excellence among students.
Evangelist Mrs. Aihie charged the beneficiaries to put the award to judicious use.
The awardees expressed gratitude to the Aihie family for floating the foundation, stressing the award will spur them toward greater performance in their academic.
According to a statement signed by Friday Isewede, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, the beneficiaries include Faith Enotiemwonman, Okoro Patricia, Adeniyi Christopher, Ojo Peter and Esosa Osawe.
