BENIN CITY – The people of Idunmwohen Uroho community in Ikpoba –Okha local government area have expressed their self-determination as an autonomous community subject only to the authority of the Benin monarch.
Speaking at an extra-ordinary meeting of elders and youths of the community, the Iyase of Idunmwohen, Pa Eguaobamwense Usiomwanta stated that Benin historical antecedents excluded the community from being administered by the Enogie as it is the sole custodian of the Awanuroho deity.
Pa Usiomwanta stated further that a recent meeting presided over by the Isekhure of Benin Kingdom, Chief Nosakhare Isekhure affirmed the position of the community to be autonomous and free from the ruler-ship of Enogie.
The Iyase remarked that the people of Idunmwohen Uroho community are law-abiding and would continue to pledge their unalloyed loyalty to the Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa.
He said an Executive Committee has been constituted to run the affairs of the community, and advised members of the public as well as corporate organizations not to transact business on behalf of the community with any person other than the members of the Community’s Development Association.
Also speaking, the chairman of Idunmwohen Uroho Community Development Association, Mr. Bamidele Omoregie warned that the parcel of land measuring 500 feet by 1000 feet which the community had earlier donated to the Edo State Judicial Staff Multi-purpose Co-operative Society, remained the exclusive property of the co-operative body.
Mr. Omoregie also called for the renaming of the oil well in the community to reflect Awanuroho instead of Erhinmwindu oil field.
