Divorce suit adjourned to Sept 30

BY STEVE OMA-OFOZOR

Benin CITY - The divorce tussle between Mr. Gabriel Osayande, Authentic Pools Ltd, Benin City and his estranged wife Mrs. Juliet Osayande continued last Thursday at the Benin City Magistrate Court along Sapele Road.

During the hearing, a witness, Mr. David Idemudia, who is the “Okaigbe” of the respondents family, testified before the court, admitting that he was aware of the crisis between the couple, revealing that it was the father of the petitioner that made efforts to reconcile the couple but which turned out to be a futile exercise .

“As the Okaigbe” of the family, the man, Gabriel and the wife Juliet, are my children. So, concerning their quarrel, I tried all I could to bring them together by telling the wife (Juliet) to return home from her parents house.

“But, it was not possible, because she will always say she is waiting for her father to give here instructions, he narrated.

However, cross examining the witness counsel to the petitioner (Juliet) Barr. A. Osayonwanbor disputed his credibility and inability to handle the crisis, noting that he was not the rightful “Okaigbe” of the family as he was not the elder in the family.

Submitting, Barr. Osayonwanbor prayed the court to guash the case and proceed with more serious issues, but was objected to by the respondents counsel, Barr. E Imuetinyan, who subsequently called for adjournment that was granted.

The case comes up again on September 30, 2008.
