CALABAR- The Cross River House of Assembly has intervened in an alleged attempt to dismiss six police
officers attached to the State Housing Police Station, Calabar, for arresting a naval officer.
The member representing Calabar-South I Constituency, Chief Orok Duke, while moving the motion for adjournment, urged the state government to “save these men who were
discharging their duty’’.
Duke noted that the officers who were undergoing orderly room trial at the Police Command went to arrest a suspect but ended up arresting a naval officer, who owned the building.
“Following the interest shown by a senior naval officer in the matter, the officers are about to be punished,” he said, and appealed for a careful handling of the matter. The lawmaker called for peaceful co-existence among law enforcement agents.
The Acting Speaker, Chief Dominic Edem, while constituting a special committee headed by Duke to wade into the matter, appealed to the parties not to take the law into their hands.
