Sagamu - Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun state is to establish a Trauma Centre to diagnose cancer and other diseases, killing Nigerians, due to a lack of such facility in the country.
Prof. Femi Ajayi, Chairman of the board of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Sunday in Sagamu.
He said that the governor was inspired to establish the centre after visiting Chief Gani Fawehinmi when he was alive and discovering that a lack of trauma facility caused the inability of doctors to discover the real cause of Fawehinmi’s ailment.
“Gov Daniel is now going to establish a trauma centre in Ogun State and he is challenging me on how to do it.
“The governor is establishing a Trauma Centre at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital. You will see a bridge already constructed to finish.
“Across that bridge is where we are going to have the Trauma Centre and we have already made linkages outside Nigeria for people to come down here and assist us.
“Specifically, we are working with Morbid Cancer Centre in Florida on this type of cancer, cause of it and stuffs like that.
“We have reached an advanced stage to make that happen and very soon, they will be coming down here, I think this month, to do some preliminary work at the hospital,” Ajayi said.
