Obudu Records 80 Percent Coverage In Immunisation

Obudu (Cross River) - The Obudu Local Government in Cross River has recorded more 80 per cent coverage in the ongoing national immunisation programme, the Chairman, Mr. Justine Ugbe, said in Obudu.

Ugbe said the council’s performance in the area of immunisation in the last six months was commendable.

Ugbe told newsmen “We recorded the lowest performance in immunisation coverage in the state and now we are able to reverse that.

“We embarked on mass enlightenment campaign to re-orientate the people on healthy living as well as collaborate with health bodies to immunise children and women in the area.

Ugbe said his administration had introduced some incentives for health officials as part of the strategies of ensuring success of the programme.

“I am happy that our modest efforts have begun to yield dividends with the local government emerging in recent survey among the top six local governments in the state in immunisation coverage ,”he said.

The Chairman said the council embarked on the rehabilitation of some boreholes while new ones would be provided to rid the area of water-borne diseases.

“To address this unwholesome situation, council collaborated with the state Rural Water Sanitation Agency (RUWATSSA) and a technical team from the Tulsi Chiarai Foundation”. Ugbe said.
