ABUJA- The National Council on Privatization (NCP) has constituted three steering committees to reform and restructure some sectors.
A statement signed Head, Public Communications of the council Chigbo Anechebe said the committee were constituted at the 55th meeting of the NCP.
The statement said that the committees are for River Basin Development Authorities (RBDAs), National Parks and the Development Finance Institutions (DFIs).
It said that the Minister of Water Resources is the Chairman of RBDAs, Minister of Environment is the Chairman of the National Parks while Minister of Finance chairs that of the DFIs. The DFIs are charged with improving the availability of funding in all sectors of the economy and to determine sources of funding for the finance institutions as well as recommend interest rates to be charged on monies borrowed to final consumer.
It also said that priority should be given to sectors that required immediate funding and incentives to be enjoyed by lender bank and to review DFIs in other countries that share common economic characteristic with Nigeria.
The statement further said that the National Parks Committee was to review all existing policies on forestry, wildlife and ecotourism as well as articulate fresh policies on the conservation and protection of the parks.
It said the committee was charged with the responsibility of reviewing the legal and regulatory framework governing the parks service and ensure that the proposed introduction of public private partnerships were viable.
The statement also said that the RBDAs committee was to finalise the National
Water Resources Bill, ensure its passage and to review policies on National Water
Resources management. It is also to new policies for National irrigation and drainage policy and strategy as well as Private sector participation in irrigation development.
