Collapsed Building Now As Recreation Park-Modibbo

ABUJA-The FCT Minister, Dr Aliyu Modibbo, has said that the site of the building which recently collapsed at Utako District would now be used as recreation park.

The minister’s decision was made known in a statement given to newsmen in Abuja .

“The titles of the two plots have been withdrawn and handed over to the FCT Department of Parks and Recreation.

“The department will build a befitting public park in honour of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident,” Modibbo said in the statement.

He stressed that the Land Use Plans of the plots had been changed by the FCT Urban and Regional Planning Department, in line with town planning laws, to reflect the new directive.

He said that the action would serve as a deterrent to all those who might “wish to cut corners, while building such gigantic structures.

“The government has a duty to protect the lives and property of the residents.

“So, where an individual or corporate organisation’s action or inaction is found to inflict pains on the lives of the citizens, such should be sanctioned appropriately,” Modibbo was quoted as saying this in the statement”.

However, the minister paid tribute to those who died when the building collapsed and condoled with their families.
