NBA President Wants FG To Unravel Ige’s Killers

IBADAN- Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, President of the Nigeria Bar Association(NBA) has called on the Federal Government to unravel those behind the assassination of Chief Bola Ige.

Akeredolu made the call on Saturday in Ibadan at the 78th posthumous birthday for late Ige, a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

“I will ensure during my tenure that the Federal Government takes necessary steps to unravel the killers of Ige and others whose cause of death are not yet known.

“The present leadership of NBA will do all within its power to ensure that the Federal Government under the leadership of President Umaru Yar’Adua raises a judicial panel of inquiry to unravel the cause of the assassination of Ige and others,” he said.

Akeredolu said that the development of the country was in the hands of the present leaders, adding:

“We need leaders that will take us to the promise land in Nigeria.”

In his contribution, former Gov. Lamidi Adeshina of Oyo State, said that it was the death of Ige that allowed some political forces “who pretended to be friends of the Yoruba race to penetrate the South-West and destabilize the whole zone politically’’.

He said it was high time the Federal Government brought to book those behind the assassination of Ige.

“It is a disgrace that a sitting Attorney General could be assassinated in his bedroom seven years ago and up till now, those behind the assassination are yet to be known.

“It is a sign that the nation’s police is not active.

Those who assassinated Chief Bola Ige would soon confess publicly as they will no longer have peace of mind,” Adeshina said.

In his remark, Mr Muyiwa Ige, the son of late Ige, said it was important to unravel those behind his father’s death.

“If the murderers of my father and others are not apprehended, we will not get anywhere in this country.

“We will continue to ask questions from our leaders why they have not caught the murderers, particularly the high profile ones,” Ige stressed.

He said the security situation in the country now was poor and advised government to put in place measures towards ensuring the security of citizens.
