Abiola’s Supreme Sacrifice Shouldn’t Go In Vain - CDHR

The Committee for Defence of Human Rights has joined Millions of Nigerians to celebrate the 16th Anniversary of June 12, just as it warned that the supreme sacrifice of Chief M.K.O Abiola must not be allowed to go in vain.

In a press statement in Lagos signed by the Publicity Secretary of CDHR, Comrade Olugbenga Soloki, stated that, the historical fact that June 12 has become a critical reference point in the strugglefor democracy in Nigeria is incontrovertible.

According to him, “this is the first time the Nigerian people unanimously agreed to speak with one voice devoid of religious, and ethnic sentiment in the choice of their leaders was during the June 12 election, no wonder the election became the force and fairness in the history of election in the country”.

“However, the winner of June 12 election chief M.K.O Abiola, as confirmed by Prof. Humphy Nwosu in his recent publication was arrested, jailed, and eventually assassinated by the military junta in collaboration with the reactionary civilian members of the Nigerian ruling class and the imperialists. Hence, the people’s political project expressed in the June 12 election was sabotaged by the annulment”, he added.

The CDHR stressed, “Furthermore, despite the civilian rule there has not been any fundamental changed in the lives of the people who are the authentic producers of the national wealth do not benefit from the wealth in which they have laboured to produce the feelings, opinions and the votes of the people currently in the position of the national resources, electoral manipulation and rigging as expressed in the recent Ekiti re-run election, as become the order of the day”.

The statement emphasized, “The nation is in the state of insecurity of lives, unemployment, properties, infrastructural facilities, falling standard of education, and anti-corruption has become the order of the day”.
According to Human Rights committee, “The June 12 anniversary should be seen as a process to re-awaken the Nigerian people.
