Postmaster-General Harps On Role Of NIPOST

By CLIFFORD AGBAJOR

BENIN CITY - The Postmaster General of the Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Mori Baba, has said that the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) has a major role to play in the actualization of the seven-point agenda of the present administration of President Yar’Adua.

The remark was contained in an address read on his behalf to staff of Edo Territory of NIPOST by the Area Postal Manager, Edo Territory, Mr. Yahya Wambai; to mark this year’s World NlPOST Day (October 9, 2008), in Benin City.

He noted that due to the nature of NIPOST, it has the capacity to reach the grassroot at a faster, and in a more economic way.

According to the Postmaster General, “NIPOST is the most veritable infrastructure that is capable of delivering the development initiative of the government to the people at the lower rung of the ladder”, adding that programmes such as the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS), National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP), Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (SMEDAN), among others, will be better implemented using the postal infrastructure (NIPOST).

Meanwhile, the Area Post Manager of NIPOSJT, Edo Territory, Mr. Yahya Wambai, has stressed the need for relevant authorities in the state to properly name and number new lay-outs or areas, so that mails can easily be delivered in such areas.

He made the appeal during a chat with The Nigerian Observer, in Benin City, recently.

Mr. Wambai similarly stressed the need for letters to be properly addressed, to ensure easy delivery, noting that NIPOST Edo Territory was prepared to service the people.

While stressing that efforts were being made to ensure the presence of NIPOST is felt in every nook and cranny of the state, the Area Post Manager, however stated that necessary steps were being taken to ensure that Post Offices are strategically located with a view to ensuring that they are effectively used.
