BENIN CITY – The committee of female legislators in Nigeria has stressed the need for parents to pay equal attention to the education of their children, whether male or female.
Hon. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ativie, Chief Whip, Edo State House of Assembly and conference co-ordinator of committee of female legislators in Nigeria made the plea in an address presented when they paid a courtesy visit to the Oba at the palace yesterday.
She said the educated girl could never accept the option of prostitution and other social vices if parents paid equal attention to the education of the girl child, adding that the more educated the womenfolk were, the more they were prepared for participation in politics and elective offices.
Hon. Ativie then used the opportunity to appreciate the Oba for his fatherly roles in the maintenance of peace and the unity of the country as well as in providing moral and material support to the Nigeria Police in Edo State in its fight against criminals.
She further appreciated the Oba for his continuous advise to Edo State House of Assembly and its leadership in some of its deliberations.
He was commended for his role in the establishment of Stella Obasanjo Women and Children Hospital in Benin City as well as his invaluable contribution and collaboration with Shell Petroleum toward the construction of Upper Mission/Aduwawa Road in the state capital.
Responding, the Benin Monarch His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa, commended the female legislators for the contribution to the development and progress of the country.
In the same vein, the Eson N’erie advised the legislators to continue with the good work they have started, adding that they would continue to pray and support the legislators for the growth and development of the country.
She then called on the menfolk to always support their wives in the upbringing of the children in the proper way f or the benefit of the society.
