Players Excited With Upcoming Draw

NAIROBI - Harambee Stars players are excited with being in the final phase of the 2010 World Cup/Nations Cup qualifiers.

Stars’ midfielder Kevin Ochieng said: “I would like to be with Ghana. It’s a good professional side and I think I understand their style. We can take them on and beat them and it would be an honour to compete against the likes of Michael Essien.”

Both striker Allan Wanga of Angola’s Petro Luanda and fullback Mulinge Ndetto of KPL’s Ulinzi Stars said they would love to be in Cameroon’s group.

“Their team changes frequently. They have not been such a big threat to Kenya. And I think we can be very confident at home against the Indomitable Lions,” Wanga said.

“Past results show that we have never been afraid of Cameroon and it would be nice to test the hardness of their big names such as Samuel Eto’o and Rigobert Song,” said Mulinge.

The trio was aware that back in Kenya many football fans might pick Ivory Coast.

“Yeah, all those Arsenal fans in Nairobi might like Ivory Coast because they want [Didier] Drogba, [Emmanuel] Eboue and the Toures [Kolo and Yaya] to play in Nairobi,” said Wanga.
“That’s their choice and I think it can also be an exciting one, but to be honest Ivory Coast are mighty on paper.”

Kenya has been seeded in Pot 3 for the upcoming third round of the 2010 World Cup/Nations Cup qualifiers. The seeding has been determined by World football’s governing body Fifa using the latest Fifa world rankings.

When the draw is conducted on October 22 in Zurich, Kenya will draw Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria and Ivory Coast from Pot 1 and a possibility of drawing Guinea once again who are in Pot 2.

Should Kenya avoid Guinea, one of the North African trio of Morocco, Tunisia, or Algeria will be in wait.
